The original Great Dane Surfer was introduced around 1995.  It was a very inovative machine.  It was one of the first ztr mowers that you could stand on and ride.  It was very easy to use and made a great trim mower.  The first 200 did have two problems and I want you to know what to look for when buying a used one.

 

The original surfer had small 6-8 inch caster wheels in front.  The wheels and supports were replaced free with the large wheels (10-12 inch) Beware of the small wheels because that is a good sign the deck was not replaced either.

 

The original deck had MAJOR fatigue points where it bolted to the frame.  All of them developed stress cracking and needed to be replaced.  Any deck with the large wheels should be the upgraded deck, but check the area from the back of the deck to the bolts on the frame for any stress cracking.  If the price is right you can weld gussets on yourself.

 

The second problem was the original surfer did not have enough cooling for the hydro motors when used on hillsides and it was fairly easy to burn out a wheel motor.  If at all possible, test your unit by mowing sideways on a hill to see if each wheel motor pulls well enough to work on the side-hill.  If the down-side wheel motor won't keep the machine level on the hill it needs to be replaced.

 

The Super Surfers and the new surfers made by Everride are all great machines and don't have any problems.
